Today I was delivering a session on entrepreneurship to a bunch of MBA students.
In the interactive session, a student asked me whether I had a back-up plan when I kickstarted my entrepreneurial journey.
That was an unexpected question and, in fact, I never had a back-up plan. We as co-founders went full throttle on our journey which made us even afraid of having a back-up plan because we badly wanted to make what we had manifested happen.
What I told the student was that it is good to have a back-up plan, a safety net, if you feel like having one. The moment we even think of a back-up plan means there’s a ray of chance for a second option. If that genuinely emerges from you, then you can’t and shouldn’t ignore it – because it’s coming from a sense of fear deep inside and it must be acknowledged.
The older we grow the greater the burden of responsibility, in which case it’s not a bad idea to have a back-up plan.
This is a good perspective that evolved during the session and I’m grateful to each and everyone who made the session happen today.
