I was fortunate enough to use computers much earlier than my peers since my father was a computer programmer. I had access to computers in the early 90s, I love computers and I used computers on MS-DOS.
Those days we did everything with commands, the most popular one was the DIR command to get the directory listing to file management, gaming, drawing geometric shapes, spreadsheets, word processors, even language processors.
Even though Microsoft popularized GUI by 1995 (Win 95), my computer was upgraded only much later and when it did happen the transition from a completely command prompt driven experience to a graphical user interface one was unbelievably revolutionizing for me.
Though I accessed GUI through Windows for the first time, it was originally introduced to the world by Apple through Macintosh.
We are fortunate to use advanced graphical interface systems on smartphones and computers nowadays, and I’m sure that those who didn’t access an era of computers based on the command-line interface (CLI) will miss the real worth of the GUI !
Today I am gratefully remembering GUI and the founders of GUI.
