There is a renowned business coach who’s more like a celebrity in India who has authored many powerful books on selling and building enterprises. Once he met me at a private business gathering.
It was during the very early stages of our startup journey and I was not able to afford the entry fee of that gathering. But the organiser of that event owed me something and because of that he gave me a free entry to the function (I still remember the entry fee was around 300-400 dollars then).
When I got a chance to talk to this business coach I asked him, “Sir, you have written many books on sales, I’m very new to this, could you please give me a tip which I could use for lifetime?”He smiled at me, paused for a while and said, “Do not try to sell anything which you would not buy or at least not try.” And he walked away…
In fact this is something I have kept in mind when making deals all these years. Ultimately, if we are not excited about our product then we won’t be able to close the sales
I’m still in touch with the coach and today I got yet another monthly update mail on his activities which made me think of writing about him.
I’m so grateful for his tip for a lifetime
