We might have heard or read from many sources that one of the finest ways to make our lives a fantastic one is by keeping the childlike qualities in us alive all the time.
In my opinion, even though it might be a broad perspective, the most intriguing quality which we can have and keep forever as a powerful tool to be amused is the sense of curiosity. When you look at a child, his/her eyes are always wide open, the whole world around them is always full of wonder – every sound, every smell, every taste, everything, their sensory organs perceive it all as new and amusing.
Children ask a lot of questions like why is the sky blue, why is the moon walking with us, why does fruit always fall down, why does the sun not appear at the night, while as grown-ups we eventually mostly lose that sense of curiosity.
Human beings have their whole lives to gather information and get to know themselves and the world outside, but the moment we start ignoring things we gradually lose our sense of curiosity.
I recently read in a journal that psychologically curiosity is closely connected with the rewarding circuit in our brains. When we are unclear about something, and we gather information, when that information makes things clear to us, rewarding dopamine is triggered in our brains and we feel fantastic.
In short, let’s look at the world without prejudice, without ignorance, let’s ask questions and get to know more and more about our surroundings, enjoy the dopamine rewards and feel fantastic.
Today I am expressing gratitude towards the amazing quality of the human brain – that urge to know, which is curiosity.
