Recently we have witnessed a series of local and international elections, and it was time again for developmental politics to pop up and be discussed widely. Like any system, the democratic republic system has also been refined, modified, and adapted to progress in due course along with the evolution of human society and culture.
In my opinion, when we analyze the kind of political campaigns in the past they were all mostly based on addressing a sense of tribe, community, or collection a people and appealing to their sentiment rather than focusing on developmental aspects or progressive human values.
It is been proven again and again that a very basic emotional aspect of humans – connected to race or religion, caste, communities, a sense of regional or cultural supremacy – can easily be tapped and converted into votes in the democratic process.
Recently I happened to read a text written by Steve McIntosh on developmental politics. In his perspective, it is all about getting rid of the hyperpolarisation of society and turning to more liberal and progressive values.
A world where people are educated and sensible and vote for the parties or leaders who emphasize progressive and developmental models would make the lives of everyone, the country, and the world a better place, and would be the most civilized version of the democratic process.
I think it is high time for us to detach ourselves from the sentimental aspect of politics and focus more on the developmental, educated, more open, progressive, and liberal view of life.
I am extending my gratitude to Steve McIntosh for the fantastic experience I had while reading through his notes.
