We all want to improve our performance, we all strongly believe that we are not utilizing ourselves to full capacity in any aspect of life. Something pulls us back from performing at our optimum levels. To overcome such hesitations and pullbacks, we try to improve ourselves with productivity apps, productivity books, training, videos, and other stuff. I also have gone through many of these. We may use them and feel charged up for two or three days, then start deteriorating after a week and, eventually, forget about it.
I found a very simple but interesting book called “Eat That Frog!” written by Brian Tracy that introduces some very simple techniques. The idea is that before you sleep or when you start your day, you prioritize and note down the things to do from A to E, with A as the top priority and E as the least important one. Your “frog” is your most important task. A might be the submission of an assignment or a proposal to be prepared and sent to your client, or the delivery of a product, or a payment or something like that. E might be watching something on Netflix.
You need to know yourself well, gauge your capacity, and note the things to do based on that. Eat the frog first. A and B are the frogs, and do not add more than 4-5 tasks to the list in a day. By the end of the day check the list and you will have a sense of accomplishment which provides you with a dopamine hit and inspires you to repeat the sense of accomplishment.
Today, I am gratefully remembering Brian Tracy and his book.
