Saṃsāra is a Sanskrit word that depicts the cyclicality of eternal time! It is also interpreted as the cyclicality of life and life events, as well.
If we keenly observe the world and events, even our very life from the micro to macro level, we can see an unexplainable repetition of events at constant intervals of time!
Onam is a 10-day long festival in the Indian state of Kerala where people ornament homes and workspaces with flower carpets!
During my childhood (20-25 years back ), every Onam day we woke up early and roamed around outside in gardens and paddy fields in search of flowers and we made the flower carpets. But later that habit was completely replaced by consumerism and we bought all flowers required for Onam from the flower market and made huge and extravagant carpets!
Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we (I think almost everyone in the state of Kerala) shifted to the usage of local flowers in the neighbourhood and started picking them from backyards and making simple but more graceful flower carpets!
This trend of making the flower carpets with available flowers and leaves made me think of events that happened over 2 decades back – it was almost exactly the way we did things back then.
Which made me think of the cyclicality of time! Repetitions of events!
Today I’m extending my gratitude to the mysterious phenomenon of Saṃsāra.
