I spent my early childhood (about 10 years) at my ancestral home. It was in a remote village and things were much more traditional there.
Which in-fact gave me a little exposure to Ayurveda and some basic, popular Ayurvedic medicines.
Fast forward ⏩
I had a roommate who had completed his schooling abroad.
One day I had a severe sore throat and I was suffering, he suggested an Ayurvedic single-dose medicine called “Elatikkandi”.
As I mentioned, I was quite familiar with Ayurveda and its popular medicines, but “Elatikkandi” was something totally new to me!
When I asked him about its availability he said he could get it near his office where he works.
He said this specific medicine has helped him cure severe sore throat related issues from his childhood and it’s something introduced to him by his grandfather.
I got excited and I did not have the patience to wait, I tried googling about “Elatikkandi” but I found no results online, which increased my curiosity.
Finally, the wait was over by evening when he came back from his office.
When he casually placed his bag on the table I asked, “Bro, have you bought the medicine?!”
He smiled and said, “Bro, how can I forget it” and like a magician, he searched his trouser pockets and showed me 4-5 candies.
I wondered and asked, “Bro, what is this?” He said it’s the “Elatikkanti”.
It was actually candies of a popular Indian brand called “Elaadi” – Elaadi candy was what he meant by “Elatikkandi”.
Just happened to talk to this friend after many years today, and we recalled this incident with loud laughter.
My gratitude to this old roommate friend for many such memorable moments 🙂
