When we look at great leaders like Alexander, Chandragupta, Isaac Newton, Leonardo da Vinci, Jawaharlal Nehru, Pele, Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Jobs etc. we find that they all had great mentors in their lives who literally made them who they are.
A mentor (or in Indian terms a guru) is literally a kingmaker who can foresee things and guide their disciples in the right direction to make them achieve what they strive for.
Asians, especially Indians, have great respect for gurus/mentors/masters in our culture. Even in the royal courts, the Raj Guru (the mentor of the king) was considered above the king.
Today happened to be Guru Purnima, a day which is widely celebrated in the Indian subcontinent across religions and communities as a day of tribute to honour one’s mentors and masters who “dispel the darkness of ignorance.”
My gratitude to the Guru Parampara (the lineage of masters/mentors) who helped me get away from the darkness of ignorance from time to time.
