There was a professor in my college whom I love and respect a lot. On the last day of my last exam of the final semester, he gave me a call and asked when I’d be leaving to go home. I said I’d leave the next day and he said give me a call once you reach the city of Madurai, we will catch up. I said okay.
The next day I gave him a call once I reached the city and we met. We discussed so many things, and in the end, when he was about to leave, he told me this: “Amar, I don’t know what makes me say this to you but I feel like saying so. There are some people who borrow money from you. If you give them 100 they will return it on or before the date they said they would. They may repeat the pattern twice or thrice and then when they ask for 1000 you will give it to them and they may take years to return that amount and sometimes they may never! Be careful of such people in your journey ahead!
He said this and left.
It was a gem of an advice!
The other day a friend of mine was mentioning one of his experiences similar to this, and I recalled my professor! His advice was literally why in many such situations I refused such requests from some people!
Today I’m gratefully remembering the professor who shared this perspective with me!
