I was going through some notes I had made after reading the book “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg.
He says, to create and redesign a habit we need understand its basic formulation. In every habit loop there are 3 elements. The cue (craving), routine, and reward. We need to have all of these elements for a habit to work. If a cue is absent, the loop won’t complete and thus the habit won’t be formed.
One of the golden rules addressed by the book is this – we cannot eliminate a habit but we can replace it by maintaining the cue and reward, shifting the routine, and changing the habit.
Anytime is the right time to change any habit and it’s a wonderful read for those who wish to experiment with their habits!
My gratitude to Charles Duhigg for this book.
