I was reading about gut bacteria (the gut microbiome) and how they are dedicated to the effective functioning of our life on this planet. It is estimated that over 100 trillion such bacteria live in our digestive systems and make our lives possible.
In the gut microbiome, the “good” bacteria primarily help us break down food and turn nutrients into things our body can use.
They also help keep the “bad” bacteria in check. They multiply so often that the unhealthy kind don’t have space to grow. When we have a healthy balance of bacteria in our gut, it brings a certain degree of equilibrium in us.
Researchers say that our gut is in constant communication with our brain and it’s possible that the balance of bacteria in the gut microbiome affects our emotions and intellect. It can also influence our instincts and intuitive qualities as a human.
Today I’m extending my gratitude to the gut microbiome for making us alive.
