day261 – Where life begins

May 20, 2021July 29, 2021 by Amarnath

I was watching a talk by Prof Mark Jackson at The Royal Society – “Life begins at Forty.”

He shared different perspectives about this idea and some of the points I personally felt cool are as follows:

We mostly celebrate our youth without caring much about our health but when we arrive at forty we get a sense of seriousness about it, a feeling that it’s time to meaningfully work on it.

We become more rational at reaching forty. We tend to accept things tested and proven.

We tend to accept change and we are willing to attach or detach from things that bring meaningful changes in our life.

We genuinely feel like living for ourselves, we seriously acknowledge our personal preferences above everything.

In short, forty is the age at which we literally take control of our own ship of life!

So, the true meaning life begins at forty and I’m so grateful to the professor who consolidated this sensible perspective.
