Today I read about exascale machines, supercomputers capable of calculating at least 1 quintillion processes per second (a number with 1 and 18 zeros following).
Aurora and Frontier are the major exascale machines getting ready for operation by 2021 developed by Argonne National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
These futuristic computers are going to solve many challenges we face – from more advanced weather forecasting (where hundreds and thousands of parameters are involved in decision making) to human-computer interaction, and personalised medicine. The scope and applications are unlimited.
These exascale computers will change the way we experience the world in the coming decades.
