Amidst the Suez Canal crisis, I happened to read more about the Suez Canal, something which I had read in my early school days in history classes.
I would say it’s a man-made wonder, an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea which helps ships and goods move faster from Europe to Asia.
The 193-kilometre long canal cuts short the distance between Europe and Asia, about 8900 kilometres, which is approximately 8 to 10 days of a ship’s voyage. This man-made canal was built in the year 1869 and has played a great role in the socio-economic matrices of humankind for the last 152 years.
Today I am extending my gratitude to the team behind the Suez Canal, especially Ferdinand de Lesseps who was the mastermind behind the Suez Canal project who led this disruptive innovation that I believe will serve mankind for more centuries to come.
