One of my favorite areas of technology had a thought leader, a very popular figure. I happened to kickstart an association with that gentleman but surprisingly a big misunderstanding occurred between us. In fact, I came to know that he totally misinterpreted one of my actions, I didn’t know whether he understood or whether someone made him understand. So I was quite disappointed those days, I was in a situation where I couldn’t even talk to him.
There is another person who is a close associate of that gentleman and a good friend of mine. He came to know about the situation, he knew the story well and he had a word with the thought leader who said to him, “Ask Amarnath to call me.”
I knew that he had a very wrong and bad impression of something I did and I was very shy and felt too inhibited to call him. So I talked to my friend and said, “Okay, let it be like this, I don’t wanna talk to him, I can’t talk to him. I don’t know how he will treat me.”
My friend tried many things to try to make me talk to him but I didn’t and finally he told me, “Amar, I have already talked to him, he is expecting your call. I am sure this will be resolved, listen, it’s now or never, this is your chance.” He repeatedly said the phrase “now or never.”
It somehow struck a chord with me somewhere and I finally talked to the gentleman. In the initial minutes he acted quite strange, and later he lightened up and we broke the ice and later became very close associates.
So the point is that in our life we have such situations and inhibitions where there might be only one door available, one window of hope, one window of transformation. Either we open that window or sometimes it shuts close forever.
Today I happened to remember this incident and I am extending my gratitude to my friend who renegotiated the deal between me and the thought leader, and gave me the great mantra “now or never.”
