It was an evening in February 2010 when I was in the 6th semester of college that we were all in the canteen watching a match between India versus South Africa on television.
Sachin was on the screen and we were all cheering, he scored a fifty, then a century, 130, 150, 180 and 194 – he crossed Saeed Anwar’s world record and gradually reached 199, then with a single run he scored 200 runs in a one day international. In the commentary box, Ravi Shastri said, “The first man on the planet to reach 200 and it is the Superman from India, Sachin Tendulkar 200 from 147, bow to the master.”
Sachin is my all-time favorite cricketer, and especially for the kids in India in the 80s and 90s Sachin was an emotion, the God of cricket. A person who could do wonders, who could turn a match to a favourable position for India, and more than that he disrupted many conventional ways of cricket and kept chasing runs.
We were fortunate enough to live and grow up in a time when Sachin Tendulkar was the anchor of the Indian cricket team for more than two and half decades.
Today is the 200th day of this series and when the number 200 came to my mind it reminded me of this match, the evening when Sachin scored 200 and was not out. There is no greater memory associated with the number 200 to me.
Today I am extending my gratitude to Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the pride of India who made our childhood an amazingly entertaining one.
You can also share your memories associated with the number 200 if you have any.
