Just happened to notice mind blowing news from Russia that the oldest plant ever to be regenerated has been grown from 32000-year-old seeds.
The Russian team discovered a seed cache of Silene stenophylla, which is a flowering plant native to Siberia which happened to be buried by an ice age squirrel near the banks of the Kolyma River, and radiocarbon dating confirmed that the seeds were 32000 years old. These particular seeds were unearthed from 124 feet below an area with mammoth and woolly rhinoceros bones.
So this is the oldest seed ever to be regenerated back to life and I felt this was so brilliant. The seeds were not in great condition but our scientists made a suitable atmosphere for those seeds to grow and now it’s a living plant, something that slept for 32000 years.
I hope that beyond plants many living organisms can be regenerated back to life after a long sleep like this. It gives great hope for mankind and the science community.
I felt we should extend our gratitude to the team that worked on this incomparable scientific experiment.
