According to studies, our body language makes up almost 55 percent of communication. It is from facial expressions to the direction in which our foot is positioned while being involved in a conversation – everything collectively framed by our body in communication is considered body language or nonverbal communication.
In the digital era too there’s a lot of nonverbal communication and one of the prominent and most popular tools is the emote icons or emojis or smileys.
The history of smileys started in the early eighties and it became more popular during the evolution of GUI (graphical user interface). It has blasted across the world during the internet and post-internet era.
Scientists say that when a person receives an emoji the emotion generated in the brain is equivalent to when that person sees the actual facial expressions of an individual which triggers the emotion. Even though it is not real, the emotional magnitude is almost the same, which gives us a great sense of emotional experience through digital nonverbal communication. It is also said that more expressive people use more emojis in their conversations.
Emojis have become part of our daily lives and I thought let’s give our gratitude to this little, beautiful collection of expressions that brings a different sense of reality in our lives these days.
