day193 – No worries

March 13, 2021August 1, 2021 by Amarnath

There are many glorious qualities which differentiate humans from animals. One quality which may not be so glorious though is that we humans worry about things. You cannot find another animal that worries about anything because other living beings on this planet live in the present. But if we analyse ourselves we can see that we spend most of our time either in the past or the future.

When we think about the worrier in us there are some very interesting realities in it.

One is that we worry the most about things which are not in our control which is, in fact, a very funny thing. What is the point of worrying about things which are not in our control?

The only thing that we can actually do is make sure that we are doing our best, try to align situations with our preferences, and the rest is upto the universe and the hundreds of other possibilities of events that could occur around us which could also decide the destiny of a particular situation. Our part is very negligible in many situations, so don’t worry about that.

The second thing I have observed in most worries we have – maybe in the last week or the last month or couple of months – when we look at them now they were all simple happenings but when we went through or were about to face those situations we were worrying about them for nothing.

Another interesting observation is that among most of our worries only a few actually really happen in our lives. Most of them remain as worries and never happen. But because of that worry, we spoil many present moments.

Ultimately at the end of the day when our lives end, people are going to bury us or burn us into ashes, so there is nothing much to be gained from worrying about anything in this life. Let’s stay tuned to the present as much as we can.

I am extending my gratitude to the master who shared this perspective with me.
