I think in every millennial’s childhood, like mine, biryani was familiar only during festivals or occasions like weddings and housewarmings. But it seems biryani has become more widespread in the last couple of decades.
According to online food delivery platforms like Zomato and Swiggy, even in 2020, biryani is consistently the most ordered dish by Indians, and it is also one of the most popular dishes across India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and other Arab countries.
When I analyze biryani I don’t know what is specific to it but it seems like the total package. A biryani resolves many challenges in our day to day food habits, especially in these times when we travel a lot and our work hours are flexible and unpredictable. If there’s a complete, not boring, easily repeatable dish it is biryani.
I am a fan of biryani, of course, and I’ve been fortunate enough to taste many different kinds of biryanis in the world. This evening when I was having a biryani I thought I should acknowledge this fantastic dish for all those experiences it has given me and I am extending my gratitude to that most beloved dish.
