I have a friend who is a very intense foodie who eats particular dishes from particular restaurants over and over again.
I asked him once, “Bro, if you repeatedly have the same dish from the same restaurant many times, don’t you get bored of it?” I’d definitely get bored, and I wouldn’t repeat the same pattern even if I did like the food of a particular restaurant.
He told me that there’s a technique he applies whenever he eats something. If he really likes a particular dish he eats more of it, and in the moment when he realizes that he wants to have more of that dish, that is the moment he stops eating. So that longing, that want, keeps him interested in that particular dish.
It seems very simple but I found it to be an amazing perspective. I think, similarly, whenever we have an urge towards something, if we are good enough to regulate that urge, we can retain curiosity, enthusiasm, and passion towards, it…it applies to all aspects of life!
In fact, today we had our tea break together in the evening, and I am grateful to my friend who shared this gem of a thought with me.
