I happened to meet an author who is an interminable resource of ideas. We discussed a lot of stuff and I asked him, “From where you get these ideas and how do you remember them?” He shared a simple technique with me and said, “I keep an idea book, whenever an idea pops up in my mind I write it down in the book.”
I said, “Okay, I think every person keeps such a book or note or something, maybe on their phone or computer, or in a diary or something like that, but it’s always an incomplete attempt, and sometimes we even forget about the place where we noted the ideas. What do you do then?” He said, “No no, it is not just a book, I always keep a pencil and a paper or notepad almost everywhere, in every place where I get ideas. I keep it in my bedroom, my living room, in my car, on my office table, even in my washroom.
So, whenever an idea pops up, I write that down and on a weekly basis I collect those papers and I pin them together and file them, and that’s my idea book.”
It may look a bit weird but it is quite simple and I think for practical purposes it is very effective to have an idea book.
Today I remember the gentleman who shared the idea of an idea book and I am expressing my gratitude to him.
I think you could also start trying this out, it’s really fun and productive.
