day71 – Monologue

November 11, 2020August 5, 2021 by Amarnath

In my opinion the simplest way to run our life smoothly, especially in our interpersonal exchanges of ideas, lies in clear, specific, simple communication.

I have observed that people who are able to communicate exactly what they want to say, not just to one person or their friends, but to a large number of people, they all practice something called the “monologue” or talking to themselves before they deliver it to people.

One of the finest examples is George Bernard Shaw. He has mentioned multiple times that in order to communicate his ideas to the public without the possibility of misinterpretation he practiced monologues, which made him one of the finest orators of his time. He used to stammer and in fact he overcame that with this practice. The technique he used was that he would go to the seashore and practice talking at the sea, loudly, and that’s how he did overcome his stammering. This practice helped him to structure scattered ideas as well .

For some people the arrangement of thoughts happens when they write things down, but for another set of people they are able to bring clarity to their ideas only when they speak things out. Personally, I am in the second category, I get clarity when I speak. That is my understanding of myself in this context, and I truly appreciate this idea of the monologue.

I highly recommend you to do the same, especially when your ideas are scattered and you are not able to weave those ideas into a sensible, presentable form. If you are a person who writes things down then do that to bring clarity to your ideas. Both ways work.

I think these communications vocalize our thoughts to ourselves so we can call it a “monologue,” and today I am extremely grateful to this wonderful idea.
