day55 – Linear vs pulse

October 26, 2020August 6, 2021 by Amarnath

Recently I happened to read a wonderful thought about the way work should be done. The author compares two kinds of execution – one is a linear execution and the other is the pulse kind of execution.

Say, you wake up by 6 o’clock in the morning and start your work by 9 o’clock, in the linear execution method you will be continuously working, stretching yourself till evening at 6 o’clock or 8 o’clock, chasing your targets, but eventually, your productivity would drastically decrease.

But when we work using the pulse method, we defragment the tasks in a day into different compartments and consciously leave enough time to relax and take short breaks between each compartment. The actions are thus modulated and take place over the day acting like a pulse.

This would help us recharge ourselves and carry out our actions with full-on energy which would bring sensible, measurable, productive outcomes in a much-relaxed manner.

When I tried it, I experienced a wonderful technique that increases productivity rather than burns out energy in an intense linear execution of tasks.

Today I am very grateful to this simple but effective idea.
