This happened during the Mahakumbh Mela of 2013 at Prayag, Allahabad, which is the largest spiritual gathering in the world. On that day, almost 30 million people gather in about an 8-kilometer-square area, crowded with military personnel, and sages – from subtle mystics to terrifying Aghoris…a collection of the Indian spiritual diaspora.
By the time I reached my phone’s battery was drained, and I gradually lost the sense of time. All vehicles stopped about 15 km away from Triveni Sangam (the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the mystical Saraswati rivers) and I had to walk with thousands of people for hours to reach the destination.
I was hungry, thirsty, and there were no shops were around, I could see only people everywhere. I didn’t know the direction but I kept on walking with the flow of people for hours and I had no clue where I had reached and then a gentleman appeared. He was kind of reaching towards me, and asked, “Are you going to the Triveni Sangam ?” I said, “Yes.”
He asked me to hold his hand, which I blindly did, and followed him, we kept walking and walking and walking – I was continuously walking for almost 2 hours and then I saw Triveni Sangam in front of me. He told me that we had reached Triveni Sangam, I could go and take a dip. He then showed me a temporary bridge that had been created nearby, and said that it was the way out, it would take 2 hours of walking continuously to reach Allahabad town. I gently entered Triveni Sangam and took a dip with thousands of other people. When I turned around he had disappeared, and I never saw that man again. I did as he had instructed, crossed the bridge, and 2 hours later I reached the town of Allahabad as he’d said.
At some junctures in life when we are caught in the flow of uncertainty, there are times when some people appear out of thin air, and show us the path. Follow them and they take us where we wanted to reach in an amazing way.
I don’t know what scientific parameters can define this phenomenon but I have experienced this many times, and have many more wonderful stories to tell. Today I am gratefully remembering the phenomenon that appeared for me on that particular day at Allahabad.
