day41 – Destiny

October 12, 2020August 8, 2021 by Amarnath

This is the story of Alexander. When he was young, he came to know about a famous palm reader who had come to town, someone who could foresee things precisely.

Alexander met that person and showed him his right hand. The palm reader asked Alexander, “Boy, what do you want in life , what do you want to know ?” Alexander told the palm reader, “I want to become the emperor, I want to rule the world.”

The palm reader checked his hand thoroughly and told him that he had a pretty decent future but that his line of luck was now growing towards his pointer finger, if it was growing towards his middle finger then he would have become an emperor. The palm reader added, “But, this condition is also good, you will have a wonderful family, you will spend a great time in Greece, you will have a beautiful life.”

But Alexander said, “No that is not the life I want, I want to become an emperor.” The palm reader said, “Sorry, boy, in this life being an emperor is not is your destiny. “

Suddenly Alexander took his knife, redrew the line which was growing towards his pointer finger to his middle finger with the tip of his knife and showed the bloody hand to the palm reader and asked him, “Look at this, and now you tell me, am I going to become an emperor or not?” The palm reader froze at that moment, at the valour and passion of that boy, and Alexander smiled at him and stood up and went away from that place.

I heard this story when I was in 12th standard from one of my teachers, I had goosebumps when I heard that story and even now whenever I recall this it, I get goosebumps because it proves, and gives a wonderful perspective that ultimately our destiny is our craft.

Nothing else is going to define our destiny, we create our destiny, we carve our destiny. It’s an amazing thought, an inspirational thought, it gives us the confidence to take charge of our lives, and today I am grateful for this thought.
