We read and see a lot of things about fitness, how to enhance the physical body but people are less concerned about their mental fitness or, specifically, the enhancement of the brain capacity and its performance.
I came across something many years back and I try to do that whenever I am free and it’s very interesting, a wonderful experiential exercise for your brain. It is very simple, and involves doing things with the non-dominant part of your body, especially hands and legs. Suppose you are a right-handed person, do all the things you do with your right hand with your left hand, it could be using your smartphone, writing something on paper, opening a jar or door, brushing your teeth or pouring something from one bottle to another. Try to do these things with your non-dominant hand.
Science says that when you use your non-dominant hand, the non-dominant hemisphere of the brain gets activated, which strengthens the neural connections within your brain and also helps to grow new neural connections just like physical exercise improves your body functions and strengthens muscles.
When we try to do this, it may be difficult in the beginning but gradually we will excel in it.
This new command over the non-dominant part would unleash the full capacity of the brain and also give a totally different experience of living altogether.
Many great people including Mahatma Gandhi have practised these kinds of experiments and with amazing results in their lives. Today I am very grateful to this wonderful idea of using the non-dominant part of our body.
