Last week a friend of mine called me when he had a difference of opinion with another person and that person started sharing something about him on social media and started cyberbullying my friend on social media.
My friend asked me if he should do the same back because he knew about certain vulnerable points about the other person as well. He approached me because he knew that many years back, I was professionally associated with official departments who handle cyber disputes in this country.
When he said this to me, my reptilian brain wanted to tell him to give tit for tat especially because it was something that was happening to my friend, but I just shared with him a video of the second presidential debate that happened in 2016 between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
There was a point where Trump was unable to counter an argument of Clinton’s and he used the Bill Clinton scandal to insult and destabilize Clinton and to score a win over her. That was an embarrassing moment, but Hillary Clinton paused for a while and beautifully managed it by quoting one of Michelle Obama’s famous statements that “When They Go Low, We Go High.”
My friend watched this video and fortunately, he understood what I was trying to communicate and he told me that he wouldn’t retaliate with cyber bullying but would formally issue a complaint to the concerned department. He did the same and later resolved the issue.
I am a big fan of this amazing idea of the new world order, and it works. I am grateful to the idea that “When They Go Low, We Go High”.
