Today I remember our washroom workers. All over the world they are known as janitors and in India they are commonly known as housekeeping staff. What I have noticed is that all the washroom workers in every country have the same frozen face, the same emotion…the same indifference or hesitation.
It seems to me that no one, especially in this age, works hard and wants to be a washroom worker. It can never be someone’s conscious choice, they may have reached that job with each life situation they faced. Look at what they really do, they clean the disgusting waste that we even dislike to look at. They are the people who clean our waste everywhere, at hotels, restaurants, flats, airports and other public places.
Let me mention something here, something I always try to do and something I want everyone to try. If we have to use a washroom while staying in a hotel or in any other situation, I think it’s a very good habit to clean it after our use.
With just a minute’s effort, we can do a little cleaning if we pay enough attention to it. It is true that these workers are responsible for cleaning the washroom whichever the way we leave it behind, But aren’t they human too? Can’t we see them as one among us?! We can express a bit of humanity through our actions….can’t we?
Today I remember with gratitude the janitors and housekeepers, the people who cleanse the world of its waste…the silent blossoms.
