When we were very young our elders kept a check on us, they kept us under careful observation wherever we were, even if we were playing. Our parents or grandparents or another elder often looked in on us to know or see what we were doing.
Of course, at that point in time, I often wondered why these people were behaving so. Later I coined a phrase for it, “regulation or control out of love.” We are all free thinkers (or aspiring to be free thinkers) and liberation seekers, but when we look at nature there always exists a certain degree of regulation or control in the universe which makes possible it’s existence. From the bond between atoms in a molecule to the speed at which the Earth revolves around the sun, everything is precisely regulated.
In a broader sense, we can say that a certain degree of regulation and control is needed in order to run an amazingly great system and process at its most beautiful. A classic example is the kite, string, and the master. The kite explores the sky and is able to conquer heights because it is held by the string which in turn is held by the master. The pull and direction that the master applies might initially be a bit annoying, but ultimately unavoidable to attain great heights.
From the gravity of Earth to the constitution to social etiquettes, there are large and small regulations that we experience in all aspects of life.
Today I am gratefully remembering all those regulations and controls that were applied to me out of love in order to make me a better, more balanced, human being.
